my female cat has a watery eye, almost as if she has a cold in her eye. should i take her to the vet or will this run its course?

At this point, if this is the only symptom and you are certain she has not injured it, she really doesn't need to see the vet. You can keep the eye wiped out with warm water and a cotton ball. If it begins developing a discharge, you can go to your pet supply and purchase some terramycin ointment or you can order it online at www.revivalanimal.com - put it in her eye twice a day. You should see marked improvement in 2-3 days. However, if she begins showing signs of an upper respiratory infection with sneezing and yellow or green nasal discharge in addition to the eye, she does need to visit the vet. Good luck, and your kitty will be fine-just keep an eye on the situation.
