We have a 4 year old male cat that has been neutered. He backs up to things like he is going to spray but does nothing. Is this a normal way that he thinks he is marking his area or should I be concerned?

Dear friend,

This is actually a harmless behavior that even females exhibit. It means the cat is happy and is similar to a dog wagging his tail. It does not really indicate marking behavior unles urine is sprayed on the item.

I hope this answers your question. If you would like to discuss this more - just let me know. I will be happy to help.

Warmest best wishes,

Terri
