I have a 12 year old obese cat (20lbs.)she is mostly maine coon. She had started defacating in the living room. And now she has started to urinate there as well. Is she sick? could she possibly have some form of "kitty alzheimers"?? I have tried moving the litter box to the living room and slowly moving it to my bathroom. No good.
I have two other cats as well One is a 123yr old male, the other a 5 year old female. All cats are spayed or neutered. HELP!!! My carpet is being ruined I must find out what to do about this I am going to get a boundary gate to keep her out of the room.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

This is not a professional answer but I just wanted to tell you that I had a little shih-tzu "dog" that started going right in the floor, right in front of me, when she got older, after being trained for years. I finally turned her into an out door dog.

she lived many more years. she lived to be over 17 years old.

she never did it till she got older. When I started keeping her out doors she would many times not even bother going out in the grass to do her business. she would go right there on the patio. you do not need to pay me for that answer because I am not a vet and it might be something entirely different.

Reply to Deann Simmons's Post: Deann thank you for your answer. I cannot let her be an outdoor cat. I live in a condo and I used to let her out, she had gotten lost for a week. I am conserned that she may be diabetic or senile. I will have to take her to the vet and get some lab work done. Thanks Karen
