cat constipation

cat hasn't had a BM for 4 days. i've given him butter. he is drinking and urinating. not eating very much but he is eating.

He usually eats IAMs hairball formula.
He is 16 yrs old and I've had him since his birth. When I noticed he wasn't eating, I gave him a couple of teaspoons of IAMs canned that I watered down some. He has enjoyed that somewhat.
I've given him some butter but not mineral oil.
He has not had this problem before. He doesn't seem in pain, his coat is still lovely (he is a himilayan) but he has become thin seemingly overnight.
