Is it common for a 13 year old cat to become hard of hearing, I mean total deafness? What causes this? Thank you!

Reply to Terri Riba's Post: It happened pretty quickly. within a few months I noticed she became VERY verbal and wasn't coming when I shook the treats or opened canned food.
