Was the cat ever outdoors?
How big is the bald spot?
is she eating?
is the fur damp all over or just in spots?

The size of the bald spot is as big as a 1/2 dollar..she is damp all over...her appetite is fine and she is an indoor cat.

This can be a symptom of kidney failure. The urea in her system can be escaping through her pores.
It is also possible she is constantly licking her self as a result of pain or even dental diesease. A hormone imbalance is another possibility.
Tell your son it is imperative that he have her seen by a veterinarian ASAP.
The bald spot can be ringworm as that can spring up from the dampness.
He should definitely take her in first thing tomorrow morning.
please let me know how she is.
If you have any more questions or want to discuss this more, please let me know. I will be more than happy to help in any way possible.
