I have a gray colored female cat (I have been told she is a Blue Russian) For awhile she has been shedding hair alot. Every time we turn around there are these cat bunnies (like dust bunnies) on the floor. I have seen her lick herself and hair come off and go in her moutn. Her coat looks kind of splotchy as far as her hair goes. She is eating alright, I have not noticed any bodily function problems. Her tail is thinner than it used to be.

What could be the problem

Reply to cheryl kauffman's Post: She is probably 5 - 6 years old. No, she does not go outside. There are two other cats in the house, but she has been with them for around 3-4 years.

Allergies can develop at anytime as well as the fact it is time for the shedding season as well but some other causes could be anxiety, skin infection, due to a dietary inbalance or vitamin deficiency. If this has been going on for some time then it would be best to have her seen by your veterinarian as they can do a scraping to determine the exact cause. There are remedies for all of these possibilities but you need to be sure which is the exact cause to allow them to determine the best treatment.
