The weight can certainly have something to do with it and you need to put him on a diet for overweight and indoor cats. Even purina has a good diet for overweight cats so I wouls suggest that you start him on that as weight problems can lead to lameness and other issues with the heart as well. It is possible that he has hurt one of his limbs or his hips so it would be best to have him seen by your veterinarian as they may want to prescribe a round of anti-inflammatory medication. Also with the signs of lethargy that you are seeing there could be an underlying illness that needs to be addressed and they need to do some bloodwork to rule out any possibility of heart disease or diabetes. I do think if he is overweight this is one of your main problems and this will cause him to have less energy but you need to make sure he gets addequate exercise as without this the weight will continue to be a problem. I highly recommend that you put him on a daily food for overweight cats and have him seen by your veterinarian for a full examination and CBC.
