My 5-year old cat all of a sudden is sneezing alot ... we have an older cat and they tend to attack each other every so often or frolic, so I'm wondering if maybe his nose was hit causing him to sneeze alot? His nose is wet, his eyes are clear and he seems just a little lethargic. Do cats get colds like humans? Should I be concerned?

Cats can get upper respiratory infections which require antibiotics but it could be also allergy related as well or as you said hit in the nose. If he is having a discharge that is yellow or green in color this is a sign of infection that needs to be treated as soon as possible. But since he is acting a little lethargic if this continues you would want to have him seen for an evaluation with your veterinarian to see if they want to prescribe a dose of antibiotics for any possible infection that he may have picked up. This can be contagious so you might want to ask him for enough to treat both of your cats if this is an upper respiratory infection as if they are around each other your other cat will most likely become infected as well.

Discharge, I presume, would come from his eyes and/or nose? There hasn't been any. His nose is cool and wet. His eyes seem more open, he's less lethargic. He's been in this house for almost a year, so what would a cat be allergic to (curious)? This morning he seems his old self, not sneezing. The other cat is still his ornery self and hasn't manifested any of the sneezing. Even without anitbiotics, can an upper respiratory infestion heal itself? Thanks, this site is great.... :)

Yes it would and if clear this is not sign of infection in most cases either from the eyes or nose. If it was an upper respiratory infection then unless really mild would not heal itself. Alllergies can actually start at any time just as with us or he could have had something in his nose some dust or hair that was tickling his nose. Or you state you have an onery cat well any nasal impact can cause a sneezing episode so he could have gotten playfully smacked in the nse or bumped something if they tend to play alot. Even being inside dust, or household products could cause this as well. If the sneezing has diminished and both seem okay I would just monitor them for now as it could have just been a case of a slight cold from the weather changes that has healed itself even if a bacterial infection such as an URI won't. I am glad he is better and your other onery baby is looking great so far as well. LOL You are so welcome I agree this is a wonderful site, being totally bias :o)
