How long does it take for a female cat to start coming into

How long does it take for a female cat to start coming into heat?? i also have a male cat who is 6 months old and we just got a female cat who is about 2 months old and she is a female and i was wondering how long i would have to get my male fixed, before she starts going in heat. Thanks, Jess
