I have a 14 yr old cat who started vomiting around Christmas time. The vomiting accelerated to several times a day. Blood work was done and I was told the results were about normal. He also had an xray and the vet told me that the stomach lining looked thicker than it should be. the first vet I consulted gave him digestive enzymes, told me to give him Tagamet and gave him a course of Amoxi for 10 days. Boo seemed to improve a bit with the antibiotic but then lost his appetite completely and retreated into the darkness of a downstairs bathroom. I knew I was losing him so I consulted another vet. On Feb 13th he gave Boo a shot of Depo Medrol, Durapen and gave me some clavamox tablets. Boo seemed to improve. His appetite came back. I gave him several weeks of clavamox. He vomited once every 24 hrs...not food but mucous and it usually happened overnight hours after he had last eaten. Once again his appetite started to decline and vomiting started to increase. I took him back to the vet yesterday. He got another shot of Depo Medrol, is on Metronidazole and Pepcid. Today he has made it for 24 hours without vomiting and his appetite is coming back a bit. The vet told me I could have a biopsy done to find out what is really wrong. I'm not sure about this since i would not allow surgery on this old cat. If it was cancer it would show up in his bloodwork wouldnt it? Is there anything else that can be done or what should I do to make him comfortable? He has lost over 2 lbs since Christmas...really seems to be declining more lately.
