My cat is unable to defecate. She has thown up clear, frothy sputum three times in the last hour and a half. We gave her 1/2 teaspoon of Laxonate (for hairballs) Will this help her constipation also? May we give her a stool softener? I am also concerned about dehydration. Is Pedialyte helpful? If do, about how much and how often? She is tiny. About 5 1/2 to 6 pounds. She got a yogurt from the garbage the other day and had licked it clean. A Dannon's whipped chocolate rasberry. Could this have hurt her?

She ate her food a few hours ago. she is on a low potassium hard food. She is about seven years old. Her last movement to my knowledge was yesterday early. This happened about two months ago and she had to have her feces dug out. Why is this happening? Other than the yogurt, she eats a good diet and drinks fairly often.

You can give your cat a half teaspoon of mineral oil by mouth. That should induce a bowel movement in two hours.MAke sure she is not caoughing or vomitng at the time it is administered to her so she does not aspirate it into her lungs.
If she is dehydrated give 2 droppers of pedialyte every 20 minutes for 2 hours. If you have any canned cat food - waater it down to a gruel and give her one teaspoon every half hour for two hours after the pedialyte. You can also boil skinless chicken breast in unseasoned water until soft and add a pinch of salt and sugar. Use the broth for hydration and feed her small pieces of the chicken.
You might want to have her tested for diabetes and thyroid dysfunction as those issues can cause constipation.
Try feeding some canned wet food and see if that helps with softening her stools.
Plain yogurt - a teaspoon once a day is actually good for her and will replace the "good" bacteria in her system.
I would alsogive her some digestive enzymes and probiotics to aid in her digestion and promote good intestinal health.
Look on the following websites for great products:

If she cannot move her bowels past today - she really needs to see an ER vet. Impacted stool can become toxic and poison her system.
Please let me know if she moves her bowels after the mineral oil and if you need any more help with her.
