Question

cat litter box issues!

Sent to Cat Experts June 06, 2004 9:39 a.m.

I'm at a lost with my cat. We have had Addison for several years and he has always used the litter box. Recently, he has started to use the floor instead. He will still urinate in the box, but bowl movements are in the floor. we changed the litter box, changed the litter, even changed the location of the box, thinking maybe that was part of it, but he still only uses the box to urinate. He doesn't seem to be in pain when he goes, and when I see him, he actually scratches the floor, goes, and then acts like he is covering it up! He is still eating, and doesn't seem to be sick. what's wrong, I'm worried if I don't find the solution for this I will be forced to get rid of my baby. Please help me I love my cat but don't love his morning presents!

REPLIED Check Mark

Often times when cats don't go in their litter box it is due to some environmental change. Depending on the cat some can be very sensitive to changes. Has anything in your house changed since this started happening? Did you introduce a new pet, lose an old one? Have you been under a lot of stress lately, has your schedule changed?
These are some possible causes that I have seen affect cat's bathroom behavior. And of course make sure that his litter box is clean. Cats much prefer to use a clean box over a dirty one. I am not sure if there is an underlying medical problem, but certainly have him checked out by your vet if you don't feel that it is environmentally related.

Rejected Nick_vetstudent's Post. Reason Given: i have done all the things he suggested, and even stated some of them in the question. I need to know if there is additional things I can do -perhaps I should just go to the vet!
