How high of a dose of amotriptolene can you give a cat?

My vet has put my 15 lb cat on .5mg of amotriptolene for anxiety. For the first week, that dose worked, now it seems to be not working as well. I am wondering if I can give him a whole pill (1mg), without causing any problems. My vet is out of town and I cannot ask him.
