MY OLDER CAT WAS SICK AND GOT OUTSIDE, A NEIGHBOR WAS AFRAID HE RAN HIM OVER WITH THE CAR, BUT WHEN HE CHECKED UNDER THE CAR, THERE WASN'T A CAT. LATER THAT DAY THE CAT WAS FOUND DEAD IN HIS USUAL SLEEPING POSITION. THERE WEREN'T ANY MARKS OR BLOOD. MY QUESTION IS, IS IT POSSIBLE FOR HIM HAVE TO BEEN RUN OVER BY THE CAR, THEN RUN AWAY BACK TO MY YARD WHICH IS A LONG DISTANCE CONSIDERING HE WAS OLD AND COULDN'T WALK WELL TO BEGIN WITH?

Yes there is a very almost total chance of this happening even considering age and health if he was sure he ran over your cat.. Animals have the instinct to survive just as we do and can defeat alot of odds. He probably had injuries that were fatal but he did not succumb to them immediatly and the injuries were most likely internal which is the reason for no marks or blood. . It could have been the stress from the episode but with it happening in the same day, chances are most likely it was the car and not stress or shock related. I am sooo very sorry for your loss!!!! The only way to know for sure is a necropsy which is an autopsy in an animal, but that is a choice for you to make if you really want to know for sure of the cause since he was sick. It just seems most likely though it was the accident. If he is not sure he ran over your cat and your cat was just missing then it is most likely he passed to his health and age and sickness. Once again I am so very sorry for your loss.

You are so very welcome. Are you sure that he was ran over or did your neighbor just think they might have? I would like you to have comfort and want you to know if they were not sure and your cat was missing then he probably passed peacefully in his sleep. Please click the green accept button if you feel my information was helpful as it helped my ratings. I am glad he is buried and hope you can find comfort in knowing he lived a full and happy life and had much joy with you!!! I wish you the very best!!!!

THE CAT IS A CAT THAT LIVED OUTDOORS MOST OF THE TIME BUT WAS ALWAYS IN FRONT OF MY HOUSE AT ALL TIMES. THIS PARTICULAR DAY AT LUNCH HE WAS NOT THERE. LATER THAT DAY MY SON FOUND HIM IN THE BACKYARD, THE MIDDLE OF THE YARD LIKE HE WAS SLEEPING. MY NEIGHBOR TOLD ME OF THE POSSIBLE CAR RUNNING OVER RIGHT AFTER WE FOUND HIM. ME NEIGHBOR SAID HE STOPPED THE CAR IMMEDIATELY AND LOOKED UNDERNEATH AND ALL AROUND BUT DID NOT SEE ANYTHING. THERE ARE SEVERAL HOLES IN THE DRIVEWAY SO HE WASN'T SURE IF HE HIT THE HOLE. ADDITIONALLY HE DID NOT HEAR ANY CRYING OR MEOWING AND THERE WEREN'T ANY BLOOD OR OTHER WET SPOTS SO HE LEFT THINKING HE DIDN'T HIT ANYTHING. LATER THAT DAY WHEN HE HEARD ALL THE COMOTION OVER IN MY BACKYARD HE CAME OVER, SAW THE CAT AND TOLD ME THE STORY. HE FEELS VERY BADLY NOW BECAUSE IF HE WAS SURE HE HAT HIT A CAT HE WOULD HAVE LOOKED FURTHER AND MAYBE COULD HAVE GOTTEN HIM TO A VET AND SAVED HIS LIFE.

No please reassure him not to feel bad, if he heard no sounds, and there are alot of bumps on your street it most likely was not his fault. If he was mostly an outdoor cat they are familiar with the area and know where best not to venture. I would think due to his age and health had he ran over him then he would not have made it as far as he did, and in most cases there are signs of trauma or marks in a case of being ran over by an automobile. I feel so bad for all of you, but he needs to find some comfort I feel as well and you are the best to reassure him of this. I wish you all the best in this time of sorrow!!!

I HAVE TRIED TO REASSURE HIM BUT HE STILL FEELS RESPONSIBLE. THIS IS SUPPOSED TO HAVE HAPPENED IN A DRIVEWAY AND HE SAID HE WAS NOT GOING FAST BUT HE SAID HE STOPPED BEFORE THE END OF THE DRIVEWAY AND GOT OUT AND LOOKED ALL AROUND. THIS CAT DID HAVE THE HABIT OF SLEEPING UNDER CARS AND SOMETIMES GETTING INTO THEM BUT HE ALWAYS MOVED WHEN THE CAR STARTED. HE TOLD ME HE LOOKED UNDER THE BUSHES AND AROUND AND SAW NOTHING, HE DID NOT HEAR ANY CRYING OR SCREAMING.
