Question

Diabetic cat

Sent to Cat Experts August 22, 2005 10:09 p.m.

My cat is diabetic but under control with purina DM, he just had blood test one week ago, and had normal blood sugar. Tonight he has started to shiver and fluff his fur, what can I do until tomorow morning when I can call my vet. He was taken off insulin when he went on Diabetic management food and has done well for over a year.

Until you can get him to the Vet, you may want to give him some glucose paste that the vet may have given you. If you do not have any of this paste try giving him something like milk, or ice cream. It sounds like his blood sugar may be low. maybe he did not eat enough today or may be a cold or infection is coming on, and this can also make severe changes to the blood sugar. Try giving him something to raise his blood sugar and even if he is just shivering because he is cold or nervous it will not hurt him. Make sure you get in touch with the vet if it continues.
