Reply to Andrea J Cecur DVM's Post: The sarcoma was just diagnosed yesterday. It is on the lower back of the cat. It is big and spread across the back like a "saddle" almost.

If you do not want to put her thru surgeries and radiation, there are holistic vets that have treated animals with herbal medicines, homeopathics, nutritional support and acupuncture to sometimes slow progression or at least keep patients as comfortable as possible for the time they have remaining. The herbal meds (either Western or Chinese herbal formulas) are used to bolster the immune system to try and mount a response to the tumor. Many holistic vets firmly believe that deficient immune responses are a main reason for cancers to take hold. Homeopathic remedies can also help the body try to maintain itself in the face of the cancer. Nutritional therapy can include anything from home cooked diets to supplementation with high doses of vitamins or nutriceuticals. Optimum nutrition helps their defense mechanisms. Acupuncture has immune stimulating effects as well as being used for pain relief. If you think you would be interested in any of these therapies, you can find a holistic vet in your area at the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Assoc. website at:

One would be glad to work with you on this.

Coming up with a treatment plan for your cat will be a fairly involved process of history taking and physical exam. It would be impossible to discuss all the possible options without visiting with you and your cat. It can take me over an hour for my initial new patient visits, plus at least that much time afterwards formulating a starting treatment protocol. Sorry I can't be much more helpful in this venue.
