(Not a Cat Question?)

does my cat have worms??

Sent to Cat Experts July 30 01:11 PM

My cats have white short "worm like things" on their rearend. The cats seem to be feeling ok although one of them vomitted twice in the last week. I've never noticed anything in the litter, but this afternoon I'm pretty sure one of the "white things" was moving. What is this?

It sounds like your cat has tapeworms. They will look like white rice or sesame seeds after they are dead.

You can give a call to your vet and describe the worm to him. They will usually give you medication without having to see the cat.

Keep in mind that tapeworms come from fleas so you will want to get some frontline or other flea prevention when you are there.

Over the counter wormers will not work for tapeworms. You will have to get some droncit or drontal from your vet to treat it.

Let me know if you still have questions.

You will probably not seen any signs of illness for a while. Then you will start to see a loss of hair and the third eyelid might even present itself.

This is not an emergency so you can wait until Monday to see the vet but you don't want to wait much longer than that.

Let me know if you still have questions.
