Cat Acting Strangely

Sent to Cat Experts July 28, 2005 9:57 a.m.

My cat has been acting strangely. She will go and sit in her litter box for several minutes, but never really goes to the bathroom. I noticed her doing the same thing outside. She just sits. We have recently gotten a puppy who is bothering her a little. Could that have something to do with it.

Puppies can make them feel a little out of sorts but I would be more concerned that you are seeing a urinary problem. Urinary tract infections and urinary crystals that cause blockages are common causes of problems in cats.

I suggest that you see the vet for a urine culture to rule these out and then proceed from there.

If the cat has "sand" in the urine, this can cause a blockage and this can be potentially fatal.

Let me know if you have more questions about this.
