KITTY HAS MYSTERIOUS 'BLACK SPOTS'
My kitty is pretty sick...in addition to the mysterious 'black spots' he recently was diagnosed with diabetes (he is pretty young and the vet was surprised he has it as he is about 5 years old and he has never been large or obese...) and as a result of the diabetes he has lost quit a bit of weight (from just over 9 pounds to 5.9). We are trying a prescription diet to see if this helps, but if we do not see good results in the next 2 weeks (diet has been going about 2 weeks already), the vet wants to start him on insulin. But...the reason for my writing is the mystery of the 'black spots'. I have searched the internet and can not find anything like what my kitty has...I thank you in advance for your help/suggestions!

Black Spots (can send pics): Spots come in and begin with a light 'scabbing' around the edges and skin is black and flakey and a little redness on the edges...it almost has the appearance of a scab...which is what I thought it was at first...but it gets larger over time (surface area) - (largest about 3/4 quarter) and the flaking eventually stops and just leaves black skin or pigmentation and no hair over the area. They are itchy to him if you scratch at them...Again, we have seen some bacteria in the skin graph, but it is not a fungus (neg test) and antibiotics (for bacteria) are not helping. They are slowly multiplying and are largely in the area of the back of the head, neck, shoulders, and top of the hind-quarters. My Dr thinks it is just hyper-pigmentation.

I also have another cat and a dog and want to ensure this is not contagious! Nothing shown up yet on either of these two, thank goodness!

I appreciate your attention and hope maybe you can offer some insight! Thank you!!!!
