I have a cat that originally was a stray. About a year ago the vet thought she had a food allergy due to the skin irritations. How in the world would a stray that eats anything have an allergy. Anyway, what are the symptoms of a food allergy? My cat is white/long hair and has patches of pink showing thru all along her backbone and also some spots he's dug at.

Cats can develop an intolerance for a food even if its one they eat every day.
Symptoms of food allergies include excessive licking, scratching at skin, ear infections etc.
You can read about food allergies here

You can compare ingredients in cat foods here

You might want to try a food that has different proteins and grains in it than the one you now feed.
Hope this helps you!
