Sent to Cat Experts June 15 10:00 PM

Cat can no longer meow, he has lost his voice. He is dry pilled daily. Could this be causing it?

Probably not.

Short time voice loss could mean that she has an upper respiratory infection. Viral illnesses are also a possibility. If this is the case, your cat should recover with time. Keep an eye on the secretions from the nose or eyes. If they change color, the cat may need some antibiotics.

Long term voice loss could be a result of more serious factors and you should see the vet to rule out an obstruction, cancer, etc.

I am leaning toward the short term causes.

Reply to Tammy Falkner's Post: He is going to be 16 years old. He was at the vet just two weeks ago for his shots, including rabies vac. I had a full blood work up done on him because of his age. Everything was normal and the vet said for his age everything looked good. He is eating, playing and basically acting like himself. His voice has sounded squeeky for the past couple of weeks but now when he tries to meow, the motion is there but nothing comes out. I just read an artical about dry pilling a cat and how it could be getting caught in his esophagus. He does get a half predisoin a day. He is not coughing and otherwise seems normal. He is also an indoor only cat. Thank you
