Is there a way to tell if my cat is sick or in pain by the way she meows? She will meow excessively at different times of the day or night. If I pet her, she will stop for awile but starts up again. She is approximately 10-11 years old and is strictly an inside cat with her brother and two other non-related cats who are also strictly inside cats. She has been doing this for about a month or so now. She and the other 3 cats are nuetered or spayed.

Dear friend,

The best way to tell if she is sick or in pain is by her eating habits. The first thing they do is stop eating when they are not feeling well. She may be meowing because she is not hearing as well as she used to. When that happens - her voice sounds different to her so she will consistantly test the tonal quality trying to "hear" herself. She may have abscessed or infected teeth or gingivitis causing her pain.Diabetes, hyerthyroid, kidney or liver issues can also make her uncomfortable.

An 11 year old should have a yearly vet exam so you can quicly intercept and treat any developing issues.

PLease let me know if you still have questions. I am happy to help in any way possible.

Very sincerely,

Terri
