My 5 year old tabbie has been biting the fur off his underside, and he's urinates at the back door. Originally, we blamed the urinating on an outside cat, but he is still doing it.
He's always been a nervous cat, but he's also very loving. At on time the vet had him on Valium, but he was okay only for a while.

I would appreciate any advise.

Thanks!

Reply to Terri Riba's Post: Thanks for replying to my question! My cat is neutored, and he goes outside from our basement to a caged area. He isn't allowed to wander.

There have been some stray cats that have sprayed, but he seems to be peeing even when they are not around.

He's a very anxious cat! We've had him since he was a kitten, so I'm not sure why he is the way he is. We also raised his brother who is no problem.

I'm hoping there is a med or behaviorial method to treat this. My husband is ready to have the cat put to sleep.

Thanks again,

Mary

Dear Mary,

Your cat has a stress related disorder. As you know he is a high strung cat. It is very frightening and unnerving to him to smell urine from outdoor cats. First, disinfect all sayed areas with an enzyme cleaner like odor mute or natures miracle so you cat will no longer smell this. Next, spray feliway so he wil not be motivated to remark any spots. You an also use feliway plug ins and rescue remedy to calm him. He will stop all these nervous behaviors whan he no longer feels threatened by the strays and his coat will grow back.

Please let me know if yiou still have any questions. I am happy to help.

Very sincerely,

Terri
